The Analog and Mixed Signal work at WPI consists of the Analog IC Laboratory and the university-industry consortium, the New England Center for Analog and Mixed-Signal IC Design (NECAMSID). The central objectives of the group are to offer a comprehensive education program in analog, digital and mixed-signal integrated circuit (IC) design at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as sustaining advanced research efforts in these areas.
The Analog IC Laboratory has been established as a complete
integrated circuit design and test environment to serve multiple
needs of the Microelectronics Group and the New England Center
for Analog and Mixed-Signal IC Design (NECAMSID). The facilities
include comprehensive high-speed (up to 2.5 GHz)
analog test and measurement equipment, which can be used
to characterize a wide range of devices and circuits.
A large part of the available equipment has been purchased
with a grant awarded by the National Science Foundation under
the CISE Research Instrumentation Grant Program.
Current research areas of the Analog IC Laboratory include
design of highly accurate oscillator circuits for communication
systems, high-speed imaging (CCD) circuits, and mixed-signal
characterization.
The New England Center for Analog and Mixed-Signal IC Design (NECAMSID) has been established to provide opportunities for sponsored graduate research and/or senior project work at WPI. The center aims to take full advantage of existing expertise at WPI in mixed-signal IC design, and to create an environment where all sponsoring members can take maximum advantage of their common interest in this area. Research and project topics are typically proposed by member companies of the consortium. An industry Advisory Board, composed of representatives from the member companies, makes final decisions regarding which projects are supported by the center.
